Promeco – streamlining environmental reporting to support customers

Promeco’s vision is to be the preferred partner for a growing number of leading and emerging companies in its target sectors, both in Europe and globally. Its mission is to provide high-quality, state-of-the-art, cost-efficient solutions that meet the needs and expectations of its customers.

Promeco’s growth strategy is based on four main pillars: improving operational capabilities, strengthening customer relationships, reaching new customers, and leveraging sustainability as a key competitive advantage. Promeco aims to become a leader in sustainability by streamlining compliance reporting in order to add value for its customers.

Promeco’s ambition is to develop and integrate a solution that supports sustainability and compliance data management together with its DIM partners. The solution will include advanced data collection capabilities as well as a robust data consolidation and enrichment system. Progress will be measured by the successful integration of these features into Promeco’s enterprise platform, co-developed with Roima Intelligence as part of the DIM project.

Although some sustainability reporting requirements have been relaxed, most remain firmly in place. This has led to a noticeable increase in data requests, particularly among smaller companies. Notably, these requests are increasingly focused on products rather than companies, a shift largely driven by regulatory requirements.

Promeco is closely monitoring the development of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), which aims to establish requirements for the energy efficiency and overall environmental impact of products. The new regulation will introduce data requirements across various aspects, including material efficiency, recyclability, repairability, and the use of recycled materials. Promeco’s capabilities to meet these requirements are continuously being strengthened to better serve its customers.

Achieving sustainable growth requires a clear strategy supported by a thorough understanding of the economic, environmental, and social impacts of business activities. Climate mitigation has become an unavoidable imperative for every business, despite short-term geopolitical and security concerns. In response, Promeco has taken decisive steps to ensure that its carbon footprint assessments are comprehensive and robust. These calculations follow the globally recognised GHG Protocol, which provides a framework for measuring and reporting greenhouse gas emissions. Since 2021, Promeco has calculated its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, while recognising that a substantial portion of its impact lies within Scope 3.

Promeco is therefore preparing to reach a significant milestone in 2025 with the release of its first Scope 3 calculation results. As its products are typically part of larger systems with extended lifecycles, their influence on downstream emissions is more limited. Consequently, the primary focus of the 2025 Scope 3 calculations has been on upstream emissions within the value chain. Going forward, Promeco aims to further refine these calculations and establish a consistent methodology for Scope 3 emissions accounting.

A recent survey by OP Pohjola indicates that 49% of large corporations believe increasing sustainability requirements are driving changes in their manufacturing subcontractors. Furthermore, 50% of these changes are directed towards Finnish small and medium-sized enterprises. This trend presents a clear opportunity for adaptable suppliers that proactively respond to evolving sustainability demands.

As a leading service provider in electrical and mechanical manufacturing, Promeco continuously adapts to the increasing demands of its customers across the marine, energy, railway, and industrial sectors. Its collaborative approach is illustrated by its support to ABB and Rauma Marine Constructions in delivering main panel solutions for two TT-Line vessels. This project demonstrated the advancement of digitalisation in shipbuilding and highlighted the successful collaboration between Promeco, ABB, and RMC as a key success factor. Promeco now seeks to build on these experiences to accelerate its ability to turn the green transition into a competitive advantage for both itself and its customers.

More detailed information on Promeco’s sustainability progress can be found from Promeco’s recently published Sustainability Report 2025. Promeco sees sustainable operations as a strategic enabler for improved competitiveness within its markets. The aim is not only to fulfill legal requirements but to set ambitions higher. Over the past year, Promeco adapted the VSME (Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for SMEs) framework for operations.

Promeco places great value on the collaboration within the DIM project, where Promeco’s work stream focuses on data flows in the supply chain. On page 78 of the Sustainability Report Promeco also acknowledges the opportunity to expand their insights by engaging internationally through ecosystem collaboration, such as the DIM-study tour to Japan last autumn.
