Promeco – a trusted supplier and forerunner in sustainability

Since the DIM project started, the political atmosphere has shifted regarding the way sustainability is integrated in industrial activities. The present focus on clean industrial transformations implies that sustainability must be integrated with productivity and creativity. For Promeco, this is an opportunity, as we have devoted considerable effort to leveraging our information flows to provide our customers with both detailed compliance reports and an overarching perspective on how we can find new joint value creating opportunities. The benefits of such versatile information sharing are also appreciated by our customers, that now provide clearer guidance on what kind of data they would like us to share regarding our value chain. Digitalization is, here, an important enabler and driver of business growth. Increasing demands on reporting offers opportunities for us to also take a bigger role in the value chain as we can provide a one-stop shopping by combining our different competence areas for our strategic customers. This means that our strong record in matching compliance demands also offers us an opportunity to be a trusted supplier who can act as a forerunner in sustainability.

As a customer-centred company, Promeco must continuously adapt to changes in the environment. Here, the DIM collaboration provides insights that we can integrate into our own development agenda. Another benefit from working with the DIM partners is that we can mobilize resources within the project to develop, test, and value different business ideas together with others.  During our journey, DIM has opened doors to enable us to add human resources, test, and implement ICT solutions for our sustainability and compliance processes and start deeper collaboration with selected partners when driving our digitalization strategy forward.

When we launched our first digital solution to deepen relationships with our suppliers, we received good feedback and have already meet our set goal for percentage of suppliers to respond to our invitation. Our decision to invest in a digital tool (KodiakHub) has taken our sustainable procurement to the next level enabling us to better understand the potential of our supplier network and ensure that our data is comparable and trustworthy. The collected data helps us to support our risk management and develop transparency to our customers.

During the DIM project, we have widened our carbon footprint calculation to scope 3 and integrated this with our customer programs. We align our environmental actions with Paris Agreement targets and to reach our targets we have also started internal sustainability trainings to share, enlighten, and enrich sustainability data as a part of daily decision making.

A recent study by the Confederation of Finnish Industries found that Finnish SME companies believe in the future, even though investments are stalling. Promeco, as a proud Finnish SME company, is happy to say that our growth has not seen its best years yet. We indeed think that the future for Finnish manufacturing is bright and exciting!
