Identifying OSME benefits

As the OSME project has now lasted a year, we begin to see examples of the benefits OSME can bring. We can identify at least three roles through which OSME can bring value to its partners: OSME as a process integration tool, OSME as a marketplace, and OSME as an innovation platform.

Most of the efforts thus far have been spent on developing the digital platform that would make OSME a useful tool for process efficiency improvements in an extended enterprise. If the OSME pilot provides a solution that is both operationally implementable and economically feasible, it would be of great interest to the OEMs as they could use the OSME platform to improve their way of working with their subcontractors. This must ultimately be evaluated by the supply chain, sourcing, and procurement professionals in the participating OSME OEMs.

As a marketplace, OSME is an attractive possibility for the IT solution providers, as the expanding OSME digital platform is expected to need a growing amount of microservices that the IT providers could sell to OSME partners. But the marketplace could also offer subcontracting firms an opportunity to showcase themselves to new potential customers if OSME were connected to some other digital platforms. As many present OSME partners are developing new services, the possibility to see OSME not only as a testbed but also as a marketing and sales channel should be considered.

The present OSME collaboration is based on the idea that OSME is an innovation platform. As each founding partner has its own Business Finland development project, OSME provides peer support, customer feedback, and piloting opportunities on top of the funding from Business Finland.

OSME invites new members to expand the ecosystem, creating OSME 2.0. If you are interested in joining OSME, please contact Christian Sundman (christian.sundman(a)wartsila.com) or Niklas Koski (niklas.koski(a)synocus.com).
